Dear Friends;
We were thrilled to have 80 golfers participate in the 6th Annual Jerry Cotton Memorial Golf Tournament along with 21 more who came just to share in the banquet and auctions. The day could not have been better for golfing. Everyone had a wonderful time and we appreciate your support for such a wonderful cause.
If you participated, donated or helped work in the golf tournament this year we cannot thank you enough. The tournament, along with the Silent and Live Auctions, and the Hole Sponsorships, raised over $7,100.00 for the Law Enforcement & Criminal Justice Scholarship Fund in Jerry’s name at the Metropolitan State University Foundation. We could not have done it without the support and generosity of so many people. Jerry would be so humbled and proud to know there is a law enforcement and criminal justice scholarship fund in his name helping students through college.
Whether you are a friend, a coworker or an acquaintance, we thank you for supporting us in keeping Jerry’s name alive through this scholarship program. Jerry’s passion was education, his love was teaching and his desire was to be a role-model for young people today. Our goal is to fulfill his dream and to provide scholarships for students going into Law Enforcement and Criminal Justice careers.
Keep Sunday, September 15, 2013, open for next year’s 7th Annual Jerry Cotton Memorial Golf Tournament.
Again, we deeply thank you for your support.
Jan Cotton & Family

Proceeds will benefit the Jerry Cotton Scholarship Fund which is being set up at Metropolitan State University in St. Paul for students going into Law Enforcement and Criminal Justice programs. Jerry graduated from Metropolitan State University in 2002 after working on his degree for several years, working full-time at the Dakota County Sheriff's Office and raising a family of four with his wife, Jan.
Jerry also worked part-time at MLA (Metropolitan Learning Alliance (a charter school for juniors and seniors) for 12 years. He believed by teaching and mentoring his students, they could reach their goals through education and make a difference for themselves and their families. He gave them encouragement and guidance and challenged them to ask questions and learn.
In Jerry's memory, our goal is to provide scholarships to students attending Metropolitan State University and going into Law Enforcement and Criminal Justice. This golf tournament will allow the Scholarship Fund to continue and allow future students a chance to attend or finish college.
His motto to his students was:
"I believe in you, now it's your turn to believe in you".
